Marina, JBR, JLT, Downtown, Bur Dubai and Deira share metro access and walkable retail, but car-free still means budgeting for regular Careem or taxi trips rather than never paying for transport — the saving is on car ownership and parking, not on transport costs altogether. Density also means dense evening traffic on the roads around these areas, which is part of why walking and the metro end up being the faster option rather than just the cheaper one.
In the Springs, Arabian Ranches, Mirdif or Dubai Hills the calculation is different enough that most families end up running two cars rather than one, because distances between amenities mean a single car creates constant scheduling conflicts between school runs, work and everything else. Deciding this before signing a lease is easier than discovering it after moving in.
