Childcare Options
Dubai offers a wide range of childcare from full-time live-in nannies to drop-in nurseries and on-demand babysitting apps. Quality varies — always check credentials.
Live-In Nannies
Very common in Dubai. Most live-in nannies come from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, or India through licensed recruitment agencies. Employers must provide a room, meals, and typically cover visa/insurance costs.
• Salary: AED 2,500–5,000/month
• Visa sponsorship by employer required
• Health insurance mandatory
• Annual flight home often included
• Agencies: Blue Apple, Select Nannies, Dream Maid
On-Demand Babysitting
App-based babysitting services are popular for occasional needs without the commitment of a full-time nanny. Sitters are vetted and rated by users.
• MyHelper — most popular, extensive vetting
• Helpr — fast bookings, rated sitters
• Babysitters.ae — local platform
• Typical cost: AED 30–60/hr
Nurseries
Regulated by KHDA (Knowledge and Human Development Authority). Most nurseries accept children from 45 days old. Quality varies significantly.
• Cost: AED 1,500–4,000/month
• KHDA inspection ratings available online
• British, American, Montessori options
• Popular: Blossom Nursery, Raffles Nursery, Jumeirah International Nursery
After-School Care
Many schools offer after-school clubs and supervision. Private after-school care centres are also available in most residential communities.
• School after-school programmes: AED 500–1,200/month
The KHDA publishes annual inspection reports for all registered nurseries and schools. A "Good" or "Outstanding" rating matters — avoid nurseries rated "Acceptable" or below unless you've visited and are satisfied. Reports are freely available at khda.gov.ae.
Best Family Neighborhoods
Not all of Dubai is equal for families. Villa communities with gardens, community pools, and nearby schools are far better suited to family life than high-rise apartment towers.

Paediatric vaccination schedule
DHA mandates a structured childhood immunisation schedule. Schools verify against this at enrolment. Free at DHA primary-care centres for residents; included in most private paediatric well-child packages. The full programme covers: BCG (TB), Hepatitis B, OPV / IPV (polio), DTaP-Hib (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, Hib), Pneumococcal, Rotavirus, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis A, HPV (12+), and seasonal flu. Keep your child's immunisation card current — required at every school enrolment and at residence-visa renewal stages.
Sponsoring a spouse and children — the visa basics
UAE residency for family members is sponsored by an employed family member. The income and process requirements are well-defined.
Sponsor income requirements
Sponsor a spouse: minimum salary AED 4,000/month + housing or AED 5,000 all-in (most professional roles qualify).
Female sponsoring family: previously restricted; now generally permitted across most professional categories with the same salary thresholds.
Required documents (children)
Original birth certificate (apostilled and translated to Arabic if from outside UAE)
Marriage certificate of parents (apostilled and translated)
Sponsor's salary certificate or labour contract
Sponsor's tenancy contract (Ejari) and DEWA bill
Sponsor's passport, visa, Emirates ID
Child's passport (validity 6+ months)
2 photographs of child
Medical fitness certificate (for children over 18)
Process takes 2–4 weeks. Health insurance is mandatory and must be arranged before visa issuance. Cost: roughly AED 1,500–3,000 per dependent for the visa itself, plus AED 2,000–8,000 per dependent for annual health insurance. See our visas guide for the full process.
Summer survival — June to September
Dubai summer (mid-May to mid-October) regularly hits 45°C+ with high humidity. Outdoor activities are unsafe in the day; family life shifts indoors. Knowing what works ahead of time turns a brutal three months into a manageable shift.
Indoor play centres are the daily lifeline: OliOli, KidZania, Dubai Aquarium, Green Planet, Cheeky Monkeys, Bounce, IMG Worlds.
Cinema days: Reel, Vox, Roxy — many run kids' matinee deals AED 30–45.
Aquaventure / waterpark passes: early morning visits before peak heat (open 10am).
Summer school camps: AED 1,200–3,500/week; sport, art, STEM, language camps July–August.
Air-conditioned playgrounds: The Edge (DIFC), Adventure HQ (Times Square Center).
Library / community centres: Mohammed bin Rashid Library has children's programmes.
Travel out: July–August is the cheapest time to fly to Europe; many families book extended trips home.
Heat exhaustion and children
Children dehydrate faster than adults. Signs of heat exhaustion: lethargy, headache, irritability, no urination for 4+ hours, dry lips. Move to AC immediately, give cool water in small sips. Pack water bottles for any outdoor exposure even on cloudy days (cloud doesn't block the heat). Schools enforce strict outdoor-time rules during summer — students stay inside for break and lunch.
