Dubai Grocery Guide: Supermarkets, Delivery & Local Markets
Carrefour vs Spinneys vs LuLu — where to shop by budget, plus delivery apps, specialty stores, and where to find foods from home.
Dubai's supermarket landscape ranges from premium imported-goods specialists to vast hypermarkets where you can stock a family kitchen on a budget. Understanding which store to use for which purchase is the key to managing your food costs in an expensive city. And for certain categories — alcohol, pork, and organic produce — knowing exactly where to go saves both time and confusion.
Premium Supermarkets
Spinneys
The go-to for British and South African expats. Spinneys stocks imported UK brands, fresh British-style baked goods, and European cheeses and meats. Quality is consistently high. Prices are 20–40% above Carrefour for comparable items. Multiple branches across Dubai; the Umm Suqeim and JBR locations are among the best-stocked.
Waitrose
The UAE Waitrose franchise (operated by Spinneys) stocks most of the UK Waitrose own-brand range alongside premium international imports. If you had a Waitrose habit in the UK, these stores will feel immediately familiar. Prices are the highest in Dubai's mainstream supermarket landscape. Branches at Dubai Mall, JBR, and Motor City.
Mid-Range: Carrefour
The widest product range of any Dubai supermarket and the closest thing to a one-stop shop. Carrefour stocks everything from electronics to clothing alongside its grocery range. Prices are fair — typically 10–15% above LuLu but with broader range. The MAF app offers home delivery and click-and-collect. Multiple hypermarket-format branches plus smaller express stores.
Budget: LuLu Hypermarket
Dubai's most affordable mainstream supermarket and the best choice for Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, and Filipino grocery items. The fresh produce section is excellent value, and the bulk spice and rice sections save significant money. LuLu's own-brand items are consistently the cheapest on the market. Multiple large-format branches across the city.

Alcohol: NOT in Supermarkets
Alcohol is not sold in supermarkets in Dubai — it is sold exclusively at licensed alcohol retailers. The two main chains are:
- MMI (Maritime & Mercantile International) — Largest chain; branches in Jumeirah, Bur Dubai, and most major areas; good wine and spirits selection
- African + Eastern (A&E) — Strong competitor to MMI; similar coverage and pricing; often has better selections of craft beers and premium spirits
Grocery Delivery Apps
- Talabat Mart — 15–30 minute delivery from dark stores across Dubai; great for essentials
- Noon Minutes — Rapid grocery delivery; strong on pantry staples and packaged goods
- Carrefour app — 1–2 hour delivery from nearest Carrefour branch; best for larger weekly shops
