Winter in Dubai (Nov-Mar): The Best Season, Explained
Perfect weather, outdoor activities, events season, and why winter is the absolute best time to visit or live in Dubai.
November through March is the season that transforms Dubai. The oppressive summer heat retreats, the city exhales, and an entirely different version of the emirate comes to life — outdoor terraces packed again, desert excursions sold out weekends in advance, and tourists filling hotels that sat half-empty in August.
What to Expect: Weather by Month
- November: 22–32°C; still warm enough for the beach in the afternoon, cool in the evening — the first month you'll want a light jacket after dark
- December: 18–28°C; ideal beach and outdoor weather; evenings are genuinely cool; light layers needed at night
- January: 17–26°C; the coolest month; early mornings can drop to 12–14°C; desert nights surprisingly cold
- February: 18–28°C; warming up; still excellent weather; occasional brief rain possible
- March: 20–32°C; warm and sunny; the last comfortable month before the heat returns

Outdoor Activities That Return in Winter
Most outdoor experiences in Dubai are either impossible or deeply unpleasant in summer heat. Winter unlocks the full menu:
- Beach life: JBR, Kite Beach, La Mer, and Jumeirah Open Beach are at their best; water temperature stays pleasant (22–26°C) through February
- Desert activities: Morning and evening safaris, hot air balloon flights, desert camping, and hiking in the Hatta mountain trails
- Cycling and running: Al Qudra Cycling Track (86 km loop), Dubai Autodrome cycling circuit, and Jumeirah Corniche all come alive
- Outdoor dining: Restaurant terraces, pool-bar dining, and rooftop venues all reopen fully from November
- Golf: Dubai's 11+ golf courses are at their best; book tee times well in advance in January–February
Winter Events Calendar
- Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF): Late December through late January; city-wide sales, fireworks, concerts, and attractions; one of the world's biggest retail events
- Dubai Marathon: January; full marathon, half marathon, and 10K through the city centre; attracts elite athletes and thousands of recreational runners
- Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships: February; WTA and ATP events at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium; world top-20 players attend
- Dubai World Cup (Horse Racing): Late March; the world's richest horse race (USD 12 million prize); a major social event as much as sporting
- Global Village: October–April; 90+ country pavilions, food, entertainment, and rides at a sprawling outdoor venue
- Taste of Dubai: March; food festival at Media City with leading chefs, cooking demos, and tastings
What to Pack
- T-shirts and light clothing for daytime (you will still be warm in the sun)
- A light jacket or cardigan for evenings (essential in January–February)
- A warmer layer for desert overnight trips (temperatures drop to 8–12°C in January)
- Swimwear — the beach and hotel pools are still very much in use
- Comfortable walking shoes for the souks, heritage areas, and outdoor markets
Is This the Best Time to Visit?
For first-time visitors: yes, overwhelmingly. The combination of comfortable temperatures, full outdoor activity, and peak events makes December–February the sweet spot. Long-term residents often prefer October–November or March–April for better value and lower crowds. Summer (June–September) is the budget option — hotels are cheapest, but expect 42–48°C and limited outdoor activity.
