United Kingdom-specific tips
SRT thresholds: automatic non-resident under 16 days (if recently UK-resident) or 46 days. The "sufficient ties" test scales between automatic thresholds — under 91 days/year keeps you safe under most ties combinations.
4 ties: family tie (spouse/minor children in UK), accommodation tie (UK home for personal use), work tie (40+ UK working days), 90-day tie (90+ UK days in either of last 2 years).
Split-year: if leaving UK partway through tax year, you can apply for split-year treatment. Get tax advice — the SRT has subtle traps.
Best practices for tracking
- Track every trip in real-time.Add the trip the moment you book or arrive. Don't reconstruct from memory at year-end — you'll miss days.
- Include all home-country trips: business trips, family events, weddings, funerals, conferences — they all count. ATO / HMRC / IRS audit will pull immigration records.
- Keep boarding passes / passport stamps: physical evidence of arrival / departure dates. Airlines retain electronic records for 7 years; download them periodically.
- Half-days nuance:rules differ by country. UK SRT: midnight test (where you are at midnight). US PPT: full 24-hour days only. AU / India / Canada: generally calendar-day basis. Read your country's specific rule.
- Document UAE residency:keep Ejari, Emirates ID, employment contract, UAE bank statements, kids' school records. If audited by your home tax authority, this evidence supports your non-residency claim.
- Watch the "sufficient ties" test: UK SRT in particular — having UK family + UK property + occasional UK work + over 90 days in last 2 years can make you UK resident even with just 60 UK days.
- Backup the data: this tool stores in browser local storage. Export CSV regularly. Lost browser = lost data.
